I got this wonderful head conker near Mitchel, South Dakota along with a bunch of other items. I recently had this listed under 1800 to 1940 and the listing was ended because some one thought it was incorrect. This piece is from the first half of the 1900's. I am now listing it under 1940 till now..which makes it sound much newer as far as I am concerned, but, I will let you be the judge. This item is a flash back to a more romantic time that we all remember from watching the Cowboy and Indian films. The Indian brave sitting upon his trusty pony, ready to rush up to an enemy and give him a good wallop to get his attention. These were made to use from horseback. You would grab onto the end of the horse tail and start rotating it to build up some momentum and BAM! The stone head is wrapped in rawhide that extends down the wooden handle below the stone head is a piece of buffalo hide and a small section of bead work(very small beads)that is green, yellow and red. The whole body of the piece is then rubbed with red ocher. At the bottom the piece of horse tail is attached. It measures 24 1/2 inches from the stone head to the end of the rawhide tail with the horse hair adding another 16 inches or so. Please only bid if you are serious about buying and paying for the item. Item must be paid for with in 1 week of auction ending. Take a look read more
