's a fantastic treat for those of you who have been hankering for a Hubbard Basin round but couldn't afford the price tag on a larger piece. This wonderful, deep inky blue specimen is one of the most beautiful richly colored blue specimens I've ever had and it's in a nice, larger size but with a modest price tag! It's cut a bit thinner than others and while still quite strong, it allows the light to pass through it like a Brazilian agate when backlit showing off the wood grain in a completely different, breath taking way! Our best value in a Hubbard Basin show piece the likes of which only Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary can offer! Completely fracture free, this is a true collector piece! 's an absolutely gorgeous, hard to come by petrified wood round from one of the most prized petrified wood deposits ever discovered! If you aren't familiar with the Hubbard Basin petrified wood from Nevada, you should be! It's a very colorful variety, though not plentiful so the pieces aren't often found (or seen). This piece has all of the best color that these coveted specimens are famous for but the dominant shade in this one is blue - every shade of blue! The characteristic blue, white, black and gold appear to have been painted into the stone with the single intention of drawing a gasp from the fossil wood collector on sight! Besides being beautifully colored, it's also perfectly preserved. The flowing wood grain from this complete round starts at the heart and fans out through every part of this highly colorful wood. Hubbard Basin petrified wood is highly prized among fossil and gemstone collectors because of it's uniquely beautiful blue color and gold, red, etc. inclusions. It's also some of the best agatized wood to be found and is sometimes even translucent. This piece appears to be from a conifer and the cell structure is visible in several areas. Many of the trees found in this coveted deposit were spruce. This is a smaller log cross section of petrified wood. This piece is almost completely fracture free which is rare for any large petrified wood specimen and especially uncommon in the Hubbard Basin pieces. This round is complete, and nicely sized although most of these specimens were from softer wood species and like their cousins in Cherry Creek (Nevada's other famous deposit) they tended to get "squashed" in the ground forming these oblong rounds when cut. The jagged edge is like coral - extremely hard and indicative of the powerful forces that created this timeless treasure! If you haven't seen our petrified wood specimens before then you've been missing one of the best treasures found on eBay! We work hard to find the best specimens from the most prized locations and then work with our magic to create a world class specimen for your collection. The piece is quite solid and meant to be handled. A quick squirt of windex will remove fingerprints from the glassy polished surface. This stone has been professionally polished on a special lap that produces a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. We obtained this round at a local show a couple of years ago and reworked the commercial finish to produce a world class specimen featuring the Sticks-in-Stones polish worthy of a place in your own collection. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on! It measures about 10 3/4" x 7 1/2" wide on the polished face. It's cut about 0.32" thick. Weight for this slab is 1.66 lbs. Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders. We will combine auction items or provide additional items from our shop to bring you the greatest possible value in fine Lapidary & stone collectibles!
