we have a charming old bit of porcelain marked with the impressed Sitzendorf crown and the number 24406. Looking thru' the new issue of Bazaar yesterday, I think we might be seeing some of the Pierrette influence coming back this fall -it was a charming look, popular back in the 20's and 30's. This darling old lady measures approximately 5" X 3 1/8" X 2 1/2" high, and weighs just about 8 oz before packing. She has a little extra flake of porcelain just at her right knee which looks like it add during firing as it is over the black glaze and a chip at the crown of her cap -I suspect a perfume bottle or a pipe bowl to be the weapon -it really doesn't spoil her looks, but it is reflected in the low opening bid. Many years of use and charm left in this. Shipping quote is for the cheapest rate possible while still keeping the item safe, this may not be the fastest rate, BUT we will give options for upgrades in our invoice after the listing ends (be sure to wait for the SECOND email before paying!!). Insurance optional but always recommended. Please note we do strictly observe all FAA and customs regulations. ******************************************************* SHIPPING DETAILS: We are small volume sellers, located in a rural area, so, especially given the price of gas, the only reasonable shipping method for us is the Postal Service. USPS now uses a volume based calculation of postage. What that means is when you have something relatively light in comparison to its size, they add a surcharge -actually, all the shipping services do, it's just new for USPS and has suddenly made a lot of difference between Priority and Parcel Post on some packages. We believe the buyer should have some choice in the matter, and that most people don't want to pay any more than they have to for shipping -when we buy, we certainly don't! I have many years of experience with shipping and shipping claims, and the first choice you make is either cost or speed, because cheap and fast don't go together, EVER, no matter what carrier you use. The second thing to know is the longer something is in the mailstream, the more chances it has to get knocked around and damaged. Everything is handled by machine for most of its transit time, you need to pack defensively and we do- you can mark fragile all over it, the machine doesn't care.
