A fantastic, rare find, this is a small stoneware jug with brown glaze on the top portion, still with original porcelain screw-on cap that even still has its original rubber seal!

Best of all, not only is this from a business that has a terrific history, but it's dated -- this was given away to celebrate Christmas 1900, and New Years 1901. No guessing about this one!

A fairly prolific brewer in this historic town west of Chicago, it produced "Casper's Superior" beer and other brands.

The jug measures just under 6" to the lip, and with the cap on, add another half inch.

In extraordinary condition for an antique jug. No chips or cracks. T is crazing and resultant light staining as you can see in the pictures ... terrific character.

One glaze pop along the edge between the brown and natural glazes isn't a chip, it just isn't glazed and shows the stoneware underneath. Cap is threaded and goes on tightly. No maker's markings. A little dust in the inside edge of the handle.

If you collect advertising jugs, Elgin history, or brewery history, you can't let this one slip away!
