A small, charming ancient Greek Hellenistic pottery amphora, dating to approximately 200 B.C. The vessel with bilateral handles, ribbed body, rounded bottom, thick, cylindircal neck and everted mouth. Likely used as a small storage jar in ancient times. Height: 3 1/4 inches. Condition: Good condition. Unrestored. Provenance: Ex. Collection of His Excellency the late C. Perrone Capano, acquired 1960's. Capano was a well respected Italian diplomat who served as Consul in Washington and later as Ambassador to Syria. It was in Syria that Capano developed his love of antiquities, acquiring a magnificent collection in the Early to late 1960's.
