This irregular triangular designed domed lidded box, measuring almost 2 ½” by 2 5/8” (including hinge & clasp) by 1 ½”, features a young boy seated on a rock or blanket in the woods. Outside judging by the background of pale foliage, he appears to be conversing with the person he is looking at off to the side, as he points in the opposite direction. His hand painted details include his facial features, maroon cap & vest, pale green shirt, blue knee britches, white stockings, & dark shoes. The background is done in shades of pale grays & greens with touches of pale brown. The lid’s scene is framed in an ornate gold border painted by hand. The lid & base are both trimmed in a “chased” gilt frame which has an ornate “S” clasp & is hinged at the back. The pale foliage of the top lid’s background is repeated inside the lid & also inside the base. The “bulbous” base is divided in four parts which “puff” out; each section as well as the top & bottom of the base is edged with a thin gilt line. A design of vines, leaves, & tendrils is hand painted, again in the same pale grays & greens with touches of pale brown. The hinge, other metalwork, & the porcelain all appear to be in very good original condition. The base is marked with a Meissen mark. A lovely trinket, amazing to have survived all these years, another heirloom from Grandmother. read more
