Up for auction is a sly crafted out of white Picasso Marble. This curious fox was crafted by mastercarver Wilfred Cheama. Wilfreds skilled and experienced hands made this small fox with great detail. This is affordable little guy will brighten any collection.

Handmade sculpture is signed "Wilfred Cheama" by artist

Wilfred and his brothers Fabian, Lance Cheama and Dan Quam are recognized as some of best Zuni Fetish carvers. They are cited as being the creators of the life-like Zuni fetish style.

About Seller: I'm Albert Cheama. Born and raised in Zuni, NM. I started selling fetishes to support myself through college at Univ. of Michigan in Ann Arbor. T are a few of us in the Cheama household that were not blessed in the field of making art, believe me I tried. Growing up in an creative family full of silversmiths and carvers, workmanship is highly valued. I know good Jewelry and Fetishes when I see it. T are lots very good artists in this small community and I am very fortunate to have gotten to know many of them quite well. Thank you for your interest and support.

Zuni fetishes are hand-carved pieces of natural materials, depicting animals or other symbols of the Zuni connection to nature and all that is. These fine carvings have many uses: for trade, religious ceremonial use, luck in hunting, ensuring rain, enhancing fertility and propagation, diagnosing and curing disease.
