Smiths Enfield 1950's bakelite 8 day striking mantel clock. The clock is in good condition and keeps good time. It strikes the coiled gong once on the hour and half hour. The inscription on the rear of the brass mechanism states: -SMITHS- -ENFIELD- MADE IN BRITAIN BY THE ENFIELD CLOCK CO LTD T here is also the letters "HF" stamped into the bottom right hand corner of the brass backplate. The clock looks good on display but would benefit from some TLC by someone with the necessary knowledge. The asking price reflects the need for attention. The case has a deep shiny finish but has a crack at the back right hand corner which can be seen in photograph 4 above but this does not weaken the case. The face and hands are in reasonable condition with slight signs of wear to the face where, over the years, the hands have been moved manually. The bezel and glass are intact although the hinge requires attention as the door "drops" when opened thus making the catch difficult to secure and the chrome bezel requires a good clean to remove signs of "pitting". As far as we are aware, the clock is in its original condition including key and pendulum.
