This is the cat carousel put out by the Smithsonian collection carousel animals as a christmas ornament. All of these photos are taken as the item is in the box so remember you are looking through the plastic box as you view the item. The box probably had a short lid for the bottom which is missing. The carousel has never been removed from the box as the staples are still in place. The plastic box has a hole in the lower front left corner. The bottom platform (light cardboard) of the box is rather crushed. Inside the top lid is the folded paper original to the piece which describes the carousel animals in this series. The cat carousel ornament is in perfect condition with the small Kirk Adler sticker on the hang tag as well as the larger gray fold card (shown open in the photo) which describes the cat. This states that the cat is a typical turn-of-the-century Dentzel Cat with a fish in its mouth. The cat came from the shop of Gustavc A. Dentzel in Germantown, PA., America's first major carousel maker. The cat's tail is raised in a state of glee. It was purchased by the Smtihsonian from a private carousel collection. The carousel pole is approximately 6 1/2" tall. I am also listing the camel, zebra and the tiger (or is this a lion ?). Please email any questions. I will be happy to combine winning bids. Have fun bidding.
