Smithsonian quality helmet, military aviation history artifact on sale today. MARKED AS XPH 001! The helmet was purchased from my co-worker at the now, L-3 communications company in Salt Lake City. He was the team lead on the early 1980 El Toro, USMC contract by then Sperry Corporation to automate a slave link between the Cobra helicopter gunner's helmet, to the chain gun on the front of the turret beneath the canopy. The Marines wanted a unique, history making item and they got it. Now days, this technology is common place, but in 1980 the hardware and software were pioneered in this very helmet that you see The mechanism is slave wired to the ship via a cable that hooked on the top of the helmet, and a software to hardware plug was connected to the ship (cable is on the helmet, marked as A1P1 in the photos. The large cable that hooked to the ship had 4 connectors on it and whenever the helmet swiveled, the guns would move. The helmet also had a display that was piped down through the sighting black mechanism on the helmet visor mount and projected by a prism type device onto the visor when down. Every cable is intact on the helmet, and everything as it was in 1980. The interior of the helmet is foam molded to the engineers head, and black leather covered for comfort. The audio is t and as far as I can see, operational. Dick Barton was at my company L-3 Communications when he retired in May of 2004, and I bought the helmet from him at that time. The next paragraphs are ALL Ebay required, since they now grade for shipping costs: My items are professionally packed. You'll be impressed - maximum protection without adding undue weight. The items are always protected very well. I use more expensive, very thick and hefty poly-mailers or purchased boxes when needed (I have to buy them). Everything gets loads of bubble wrap when needed. Check out the cost of a roll of that! Yet, even with the extra money I am forced to spend on materials - as all of this equates to $ costs - and then gas to get to the PO (far for me) - my time and the car wear costs - you are still getting a better rate on mailing than most Ebayers charge. T is included for those material a nominal fee, which equates to the buyer paying flat rate shi...
