THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF THE COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA, PENNSYLVANIA MEDAL. Beautiful gold and enamel medal on original ribbon and with Pennsylvania top bar. The highly detailed medal was made by Bailey, Banks and Biddle and is so marked. It is also marked 14k. Reference: "American Orders and Societies and Their Decorations, page 73, plate XVII. The reverse is engraved "Laura M. H. Flagg, No. 2093, 1929". Laura was born in 1863 in Pennsylvania and was married to George Flagg in 1886. She was the mother of Adelaide Borden Flagg whose medal is listed separately. They lived in Philadelphia and Laura was a descendant of Nathaniel Lightner, Lieut.-Col. Jacob Carpenter, and Capt. George Musser. Nathaniel Lightner (1709-82) was a delegate from Leacock to the Lancaster Convention, 1774, and served on the Committee of Safety of Lancaster County. Jacob Carpenter (1740-94) served in the legislature, 1781, and was Lieutenant Colonel, 5th Battalion, Pennsylvania State roops, 1783. George Musser (1741-1806) commanded a Lancaster County company, under Colonel George Ross. A very pretty medal with nice history. Research will be included. Excellent condition.
