This Absolutely Stunning work of art was made by Michael and Frances Higgins, a husband and wife team who started their art studio in 1948, the studio was their living room in a small apartment in Chicago. They are very famous for being one of the founding artists of the "Studio Glass Movement" of the 50's period. They used the unique process of sandwich glass where you put separate sheets of glass on top of one another placed on a mold then heated till they melt into the mold. They have pieces displayed in the Smithsonian and museums around the country. Each piece is original and never duplicated. Sadly Michael died in 1999 and Frances in Feb.2004. No doubt their works will greatly increase in value so this piece is also an investment. The ashtray is in perfect mint condition no scratches chips or cracks. It is 7" across and 1 1/4" high, the edges are fluted, its pattern goes from while to a blue/green wedge all around the fluted edge. In each of the blue wedges there is a design that looks like a stem with 6 leaves which have controlled, drawn bubbles through out the entire design. It is very unique and detailed, when you see this you will wonder how in the world did they do that. Most likely it was made by Frances the wife, she is known for her intricate work. What makes this piece rare is the trademark signature is encased inside one of the layers, very few of their pieces are signed like this, most are signed in gold along the edge. This alone will increase its value greatly. Since the death of Frances their works are in great demand, and not many available. Buy this and you will own a piece of American art history. Shipping is $6.95 and insurance is greatly urged. thank you and please contact me with any questions as i will promptly reply. Thank you.
