Rare embroidered patriotic greetings silk postcard from the First World War period showing a British soldier lighting his pipe - SOUVENIR - A TOMMY. Soie. Brodee. The cards I offer for sale come from my own collection built up over 35 years, and are of excellent quality unless indicated otherwise. I am only selling them because I need the space. See my book: An Illustrated History of the Embroidered Silk Postcard (ISBN 0-9540235-0-1) for all information on embroidered silk postcards. This is the actual card I used as an illustration on Page 107 of my book. I am selling it because I have replaced it with a slightly better copy. Rarity : Rare card from a series of rare characters from WW1. A card that should be in every collection of embroidered silk postcards. Overall condition : Very good. There are some losses to the background silk at the top and bottom (see scan). The embroidery is excellent. Surface marks : Some ageing to the background silk Condition of Back : Excellent. Written on : No Image : I try very hard to get the image to match the real item, but the scanning process can lead to differences. The woven nature of the silk material can cause interference patterns in the scanning process that are not on the postcard itself. Any white marks on the card or frame are reflections from the flash.
