Wonderful bookends with a theme of US Navy: the American eagle is clutching what looks to be a 24 pounder cannon from the old sailing ship days, but with a modern destroyer in the background, and Navy fighter planes roaring overhead. The cannon bears the letters MMA (Multi-Mission Maritime Aircraft) and USN. The base decoration is ocean waves, and the entire design is edged with a hawser. [apologies to all naval personnel for the gross errors my foregoing descriptions probably represent. I feel confident, though, that I got the eagle and water parts right] Solid bronze, a magnet does not stick. I cannot say who made these or when, but they have some age to them. Condition is fine, minor nicks and scuffs along the bases and edges (not much you can do to solid bronze). Finish is original, is in excellent shape, a few spots of verdigris. 7 inches tall; 6 1/2 inches wide; 2 1/4 inches deep. And heavy at 10 pounds for the pair. Perfect gift for the US Navy vet or active duty person in your family. And thank you for that service. US shipping only. FREE SHIPPING by USPS.
