SOLID**c1900 VICTORIAN 12K ROSE GOLD HAND CARVED FOB LOCKET - 1 1/2" This is an EXQUISITE and highly collectable LARGE Victorian 12k Rose Gold Fob locket...it has beautiful carvings that border a blank shield shaped cartouche ... The front has an engine turned design and the border has carvings of stylized scrolls...a beautiful striking piece...ready to be engraved with a loved ones initials.. This is a VERY RARE piece as the glass insert inside is in wonderful condition as is the screw in bezel .. a sign of a high quality piece. ..it is complete with a Daguerreotype of a little boy with Rosey Cheeks..he is just gorgeous .. but he can be removed if required.. these old childrens photos obtain high book prices on their own..so this is a sought after item ! I will be listing a few chains in the coming weeks that will match this beautifully, but a complimentary antique gold filled chain can be supplied with this if required. This is such a nice sized piece and i rarely come across these anymore that are this size and in this condition...and any dark shadows seen in the photos are simply reflection as this is just so shiny ! HISTORY It is Circa 1900 by design and styling...... This extremely beautiful locket is a beautiful antique soft rose gold color ,that buttery color with a hint of rose gold.. unlike the deep rose gold of today..this piece will compliment both yellow gold and rose gold accessories . The inside is a rich yellow gold color.. as can be seen by the photographs. just beautiful ! I cant find a stamp but the outer surface tested positive for 12 karat gold.. and I was informed it is a 12k Gold front and back .. . The inside also appears to be solid gold but may be Rolled Gold in wonderful condition.. which was quite common for these large lockets and pendants in this Era. The start price is not indicative of its value....lockets such as this one...of this soft rose gold hue and size and lovely condition..obtain very high book prices on antique websites..in the mid to very high hundreds. DESCRIPTION & SIZING The locket opens to reveal an oval shaped receptacle ready to store a photo, and the bezel and glass are intact and in WONDERFUL condition ...it may have been used to house a memento of a loved one..such as a lock of hair and may have been used as a Mourning Locket due to its depth and size..The interior is a more yellow gold .. a wonderful compliment to the photo. The patterning on the front is so beautiful . so beautifully carved with the guilloche carvings and Scrolls.. a very feminine and classic heirloom piece It is a hinged locket and it closes with a crisp snap.. It has a Large rolled rose gold FOB ring gold soldered to the bale.. indicative of its quality.. and is ready to hang from your favourite chain. ..or you can use the complimentary chain if you would like one. . It has a nice weight to it and is approx 10 grams .!! It measures just over 1/2 " in length including the Fob bale and is 1" in width ...and has that olde worlde charm. It is oval , .. and is a very classy elegant piece. A beautiful heirloom from times gone by. Please note that the pictures do not show the beautiful antique soft rose gold and they look very brassy...it was so difficult to photograph as the photos are always taken outdoors to give a better indication of the item but it was so overcast .. ... Please take your time to view all the photos...as this is simply a beautiful locket...it is just so SHINY ! This is in WONDERFUL antique condition and will be sure to please ....I was informed the photograph is a Daguerreotype but I am unsure as I did not remove the bezel for fear of damage.. and this photo is just so CUTE and adds to its nostalgic charm and you know it has a history.
