Solid cast brass 24 pdr. commemorative cannon with British markings. Not sure where or why this cannon was produced but it bears a strong resemblance to the brass 24 pdr, cannon British General Burgoyne surrendered at Saratoga. It came mounted on a wooden carriage without wheels and was remounted as a swivel gun in a heavy bronze oarlock with a teak base. The base is inlaid with replica Dassier medallions depicting George II. It can easily be dismantled and returned to it's original carriage. The dimensions are as shown in the photos and the cannon tube itself weighs approx. 6 lbs. It has only been bored out 3/4 of an inch and the touch hole has not been bored. There are two small brass dogs on either side of the tube that kept it properly elevated in the original carriage. It is slightly tarnished but should clean up nicely.
It may have been cast as a historical souvenir of some sort or a commemorative/ presentation piece. A very unusual and period correct (circa 1748) collector's cannon that would make an ideal yacht club trophy or a special present for the George in your life. Or you could mount it on the rail of your rowboat or desktop to repel boarders! Solid cast brass 24 pdr. commemorative cannon with British markings.
