Antique 19th c Anglo Indian Lucknow Sterling silver Quality Lime Paste container or box-Circa 1880 Description Here we have a superbly crafted 19th Century Anglo Indian Lucknow lime paste box. The paste is mixed with betel nut to make the well-known Indian after meal aperitif called pan. I really need say very little about this stunningly well-crafted and chased box as the photographs give you all the information you require. Typically, the container depicts wild animals in a jungle scene which is Lucknow's characteristic trade mark in silver embellishment. The box measures 2 ¼” wide x 2” in height. This isn’t really one for the melting pot at approximately 50g or under 2 ounces. However, the quality of this piece really suggests that it should be saved & appreciated for its sheer beauty and testament to the silversmith’s art. The lime paste container is in outstanding condition without damage.
