Two vintage Solid Silver Compacts - both compacts are in good condition with only mild wear commensurate with age & both are fully hallmarked. Externally the condition of both cases are very good, both having an engine turned decoration and only one or two very faint, small compressions on one of the compacts that is barely noticeable. Internally the condition of both are not as good. Please see photo's for better idea of condition. Please see photo 1: Compact on Left with Cartouche: This compact has a courtouche in the top left hand side inscribed within it, fancy scroll letters RSB (R possibly could look like a P) - this compact is Hallmarked for Birmingham 1948 with the date letter Y - Overall condition is very good and it opens and closes tightly - internally it is good apart from the mirror which unfortunately is missing a piece to one side (maybe this could be replaced) - powder sifter is still in tact - engine turn decoration to case very crisp - opens and shuts tightly - nice weight to piece - Approx weight 56 grams. Compact on right of photo 1: This compact is square and plain in design with an engine turned decoration to it and fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1944 with the date letter U. Overall condition externally is very good, with only a couple of barely noticeable, small compressions to silver on one side - it has invisible hinges and opens and shuts fine - condition inside lets it down somewhat - the mirror is badly pitted and would need replacing, there is no powder sifter also - nice weight to piece - Approx weight 56 grams. Both compacts weigh approximately 2 ounces each as weighed on analogue kitchen scales.
