I have some SOMAWARE/ SOMAYAKI up for auction. This is a wonderful size teapot and 4 cups. This teapot is approx 4 3/4 " in diameter and 4 " high, a really great size. It has 2 small issues, a bit of rough spots near the bottom of the spout and a very small repair on the edge of one of the heart cuts outs. I tried to take a pic of both of these issue and it did not show too well...course I am not an photographer and both items mentioned are very minute. The rough edge you can rub your finger across with no problem and the small chip that was glued back in is hard to find. The four cups are approx. 3 1/4" high and 3" in diameter aand all have good gold rims and trim around the cutout hearts. Two have excellent gold horses and two have slight wear to the gold horses...all on the inside of the cups. The teapot is very clean inside . The lid is incised Japan. This teapot has some really great traditional gold calligraphy plus some markings that are not seen too often on most pieces. This teapot has the beautiful horse on one side and a flower and possibly a staff and some other markings leaf like markings. The calligraphy is all very bright for the possible age of this set. I believe this set was brought back to the states from Toyko in the mid sixties. If you have any questions about these pieces please do not hesitate to email me.
