Hi everyone! I've done lighthouse lamps before, but since this is a favorite theme I do keep repeating it and t over the years. As I handsculpt all the animals and lathe accessories, each lamp will be totally different from all the others, and different greenware is used as well. This is Foxy Point Lookout, a lighthouse controlled by foxes who are not at all appreciative of the fun-loving and disrespectful Jack Russell Terriers and Foxhounds who are mounting an invasion. After all, it's their job to harass foxes! At this stage in the action, the foxes are fully aware of the intruders. The fox at the front door is pointing to the "Foxes Only!" sign, as his other paw signifies "halt", as if that will help! JRTs have arrived in a boat with an outboard--they are just getting ready to do what comes naturally. One that has apparently arrived earlier by swimming is swinging from a tree branch as he makes his way upward, undetected so far, but in a rather precarious position. Another has fallen into the water and is surprised by a large jumping fish (probably a vicious and loyal guard fish fed by the foxes!). Foxhounds are organizing their own attack. One swimmer is trying to gain a foothold up. Another has fallen back head first into the water. The boldest is standing on a pier, blowing his hunting horn at the fox on top of the lighthouse, who is blowing his hunting horn back at him ~ dueling horns! I had to stop myself at this point--these theme lamps are so time consuming but so much fun, I do find it hard to refrain adding more and more detail. This lamp began with a plain green shape of a lighthouse, made by pouring liquid clay into a mold. From t I handsculpted everything else from ceramic clay: 8 foxes. 3 Foxhounds, 5 Jack Russells, 2 seagulls, binoculars, horns, boat with motor, docks, fish, rocks water, grass, trees, vines, flowers. And signs, handlettered: "Foxy Point Lookout" and "Foxes Only!" After painting everything in detail, all the parts were assembled with liquid clay. The piece was then put through two high temperature kiln firiings which bonded things together in a permanent glazed finish. I've signed and dated this in the back on a rock, Barbie Sonnett 2008. Measurements: from the bottom to the top of the shade is 20 1/2". The finished wooden base is 7" in diameter. The shade is 9 1/2" high, 12" bottom diameter, 5 1/2" top diameter. This is a great med/large size that will hold its own on an end table or buffet. To further capture attention, this lamp is wired to turn on as just a lamp, or as just a "nightlight" with the 7-watt replaceable interior bulb shining through the windows and the top--I couldn't do this feature justice in the photos but it's really fun and a signature feature of my original lamps. The third twist of the switch will light the lamp as both a lamp and a nightlight. And t's a line switch for easy on/off of your favorite settintg. I've been selling my original ceramic animal sculpture as a fulltime profession since 1982, and for the past eight years on eBay.
