Up for auction is a working vintage five band Sony radio. This rare model, the ICF 8500 recieves on AM, FM, Air, marine and beacon frequencies. Reception is clear and strong on all bands. This radio is one of Sony's earliest models to feature integrated circuitry and it is loaded with features. Intergrated circuitry and the FET transistor used in this radio were considered high tech in 1969 when this radio was sold. It was one of the most expensive models Sony offered, selling for almost $200.00. The radio is working with no broken or missing pieces. The cosmetics of this radio are okay but not excellent. This almost 40 year old radio does show signs of use such as numerous small scratches and small dings to its chrome trim. I have tried to show these in my images. The most noticible dings are on trim that is on the underside of the radio, like because it was not set down on a flat surface. These, obviously, cannot be seen without picking it up. All controls and knobs are present and working. The antenna is original, all sections pull out properly and t are no bent sections. The built-in dial light is working. It has a switch that is for checking the batteries, and sometimes it has to be operated a couple times to get the meter to show the signal strength. The meter itself is fine and the battery check function is also fine. I believe that t is a little oxidation on the switch contacts. The first image shows the radio playing and the meter is registering a signal, as it should. T is evidence of past battery leakage but that has been cleaned up and has not damaged the battery terminals whatsoever. The battery tube has stains from past leakage but it is dry and does not affect use of the battery tube in any way. One image shows a small amount of residue on the metal tab. This doeas not affect operation in any way and is not part of the battery circuit. High bidder Non-US bidders are required to use paypal.
