The sale on Wednesday, May 25, 2005 will contain around 165 lots and is estimated to fetch more than �2.2 million. One of the most important highlights in the sale is a 17th-century Mughal dagger which is estimated at �80,000-�120,000. The dagger (illustrated left) has an agate and carved jade handle in the form of a ram, and the blade is stamped with the crown and initials of Charles I of England. Formerly in the Royal Collection this unique and fascinating object stands as testimony to the early interaction between the courts of Charles I of England and the Mughal Emperor of India in the 1630s. The sale also features a magnificent large oil painting of an Indian landscape by Frederick de Moucheron (1633-1686), signed and dated 1673. Estimated to fetch �80,000-�120,000, it is one of only a very small number of Indian subjects executed during The Dutch Golden Age of painting. Another important highlight is the earliest panoramic view of the fortified city of Lahore which was executed by a local artist in circa 1840-1845.
