This is unquestionably the greatest item I have ever posted on eBay and I am very anxious to place it into the hands of someone who will caretake it for a lifetime in the proper collection and with proper care. It is a one of the original Sotheby's Estate Auction catalogs from the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis nine auction sessions conducted in New York on April 23, 24, 25 and 26 1996 at the Company's galleries in New York City. Included in the auction is the catalogue, per se, as well as the Auction Results documents roster showing the prices realized for each of the 1195 lots which comprised the auction. Incidentally the auction grossed $34,461,495.00 which the sheets outline in complete detail. T is a foreward to this catalogue, which is soft cover, contains 584 pages, and measures 1 1/2 inches thick when closed. The foreward was authored by Caroline Kennedy and John Kennedy and in very moving verbiage reads: " ... in deciding what to do with our mother's possessions, we were guided first and foremost by her deep knowledge and love of history. She was proud to have played a part in the history of our country, and in accordance with her wishes, we have given objects and documents which help chronicle the Kennedy Administration and her role as First Lady to the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation which will make them available to the public. Beyond that, our mother believed in individuals more than in institutions. She was able to evoke the lives and people of other times and places, describing to us the ancient pharohs, court society at Versailles, or life on a Nantucket whaling ship so vividly that we felt we had visited these wondrous places. For our mother, history cane alive through objects and paintings, as well as books. Because the things she collected link her with history, and because she cared about them, they represent more than just a record of her life and travels. As they go out into the world, we hope that they bring with them not only their own beauty and spirit, but some of hers as well ... " I could type volumes about the signifigance of this document but that is a given. Suffice to say that no matter what book has ever been written about this woman - on any level - and no matter how deeply and thoroughly researched NONE could ever be as personal as these pages - containing the very objects that filled her personal life in every capacity. The personal photography and biological profile which prefaces and accompanies the individual lots alone represent a time capsule of one of the foremost figures of our society and national history. I am limited to twelve photographs but believe me the visuals in this catalog are incredible and if for any reason you are dissatisfied with this purchase when it arrives I will take it back in a heartbeat if you are not overwhelmed with your purchase. No questions asked. That is how sure I am of its integrity as a national treasure. It is offered with a deep respect for the Kennedy family and I remain very excited to make it available to you. Its condition is excellent in all ways. The book is 584 pages in length as I said and measures 9 x 11 1/2 inches when closed. It is full-color in format and the stock is glossy throughout. For international buyers - I will accept Paypal only and ship International Priority Mails only. Please be certain you understand the costs and timeframes of shipping before bidding. Thank you for having a look and best of luck should you decide to bid.
