Complete service for 8 Southern Colonial No Monograms Offered at auction is a beautifully maintained sterling dinner service by Fine Arts - first issued in 1945 Few people are familiar with Fine Arts Sterling. It was a short lived company initially formed as a direct-to-customer marketing firm. All of its patterns were manufactured by International Sterling. In the 30s & 40s, many young couples did not have the financial ability to be able to afford the quality sterling of their parents. But as their financial conditions improved, they yearned for the comfortable status that fine china and sterling silver imparted. However, the jewelry store pricing and selections were still financially prohibitive. Fine Arts (and Westmorland - another home marketing company) tapped into that market... offering an affordable way for the average homemaker to buy the sterling set of her dreams - piece by piece. Pennies were saved and month by month, the silver service grew. This expansive set of Southern Colonial is a splendid example of the tenacity of our parents and grand-parents. This sterling is in near pristine shape, showing only minimal use and/or storage scratches of estate sterling. It was very carefully handled and lovingly cared for. The pattern is elegant and simple - very distinctive yet eminently tasteful. It is one that would pair easily with the simplest china pattern to the most ornate designs. Each piece fits well in the hand and is of a comfortable weight and balance. Not a bit lightweight or chintzy. All totalled, this set of sterling weighs over 80 troy ounces WITHOUT weighing the knives (because of the stainless steel blades) Now for the particulars. This set is wonderfully complete. 8 Knives - 9 1/4 inches - the stainless steel blades are bright and shiny, with no pits or stains. The handles show no indication of being dropped or abused (and yes, I closely inspected every one) 8 forks - 7 3/8 inches - superb shape. 16 teaspoons - 5 3/4 inches - wonderful condition 8 salad forks - 6 1/2 inches - wonderful condition (I didn't have room to post photographs of the forks but they are in splendid condition as well) 8 round bowl soup spoons - 6 1/2 inches - super, near perfect condition. 8 ice tea spoons - 7 3/8 inches - super shape 8 oyster or cocktail forks - 5 1/2 inches - in near perfect condition. 8 flat handle solid sterling butter spreaders 4 solid sterling serving forks 1 solid sterling meat fork 1 solid sterling gravy ladle 1 sugarshell The silver keeper case that comes with this sterling is very unusual... the top portion that you see in the pictures lifts out to reveal a sectioned area in bottom of the case for additional storage. The perfect place to safely store your sterling butter pats, coasters, salt dips, etc... It is 11 1/2 X 19 1/2 X 6 inches deep. Roomy enough for the largest silver pieces plus small trays, napkin rings... almost anything that tends to get lost in the back of the china cabinet. It is in definite used shape and has the expected scratching of an old wooden piece but it is extremely sound and all in all... a very well crafted silver chest. Please view the pictures carefully. I generally take my photographs outside in sunlight to accurately depict the colors and conditions of the items I am offering. If you see any discolorations or other anomalies that would indicate damage, it is either the sun, the clouds, the trees, or me. I try to fully and faithfully disclose any irregularities I find but I am far from perfect and some things may escape my detection. Also, when damage (no matter how minute) I try to make sure that it is clearly depicted in the photos. I believe that I have described the above auction offering accurately and in detail. Please consult the photographs or Email me with any questions. My word is my bon...
