NO RESERVE on this original Confederate Southern Cross of Honor. This medal was given to Confederate Civil War soldiers by the United Daughters of the Confederacy. The upper bar of the medal is named J. Cay and is also marked 27 SCV. I was told by a civil war collector the medal was issued to a South Carolina civil war vet The medal has a makers mark below the word HONOR on the back side of the medal, the maker marking can be seen in the last photo " The Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J. " The Southern Cross of Honor medal is in as found condition, I have no idea how to clean or conserve this medal so it is being sold as found. The medal was found in Missouri when I was doing restoration on a house that was built in 1854. The Southern Cross of Honor was found in the attic with a Civil War South Carolina Slouch Hat. I have the Confederate Slouch Hat that belonged to the same man listed in my other auctions and hope both items will stay together . Please look at all the photos I have posted with the listing showing both sides of the Confederate medal. I am starting the Confederate medal out at 35.00 and it will sell to the highest bidder. I do not collect civil war items and have decided to sell the medal so someone can enjoy it and take care of it as it should be. Please feel free to email me with questions or if you need more photos. Also check my other auctions to see the Confederate Slouch Hat that belonged to the same man. This item can be shipped anywhere and will be shipped insured.
