You are bidding on a new On3 (On30 with appropriate trucks) scale craftsman kit from Trout Creek Engineering. These cars were originally produced for the South Pacific Coast Railroad by the Carter Brothers Car Shops located in Newark, California in 1877. The cars were in the second series of boxcars built for the SPC and had a number of unique features designed to serve the particular needs of the SPC. The dual doors on the car sides and distinctive dual purpose doors on the ends facilitated the use of the cars as ventilated cars for produce and a closed car for regular freight. The tall end doors in both ends of the cars not only provided ventilation but made the loading of long lengths of finished lumber possible. The cars were unusual for the 1930's because of the double sheathed roof with drip grooves. This group of cars consisted of 35 units with even numbers from 22 thru 90. The use of even numbers for boxcars and odd numbers for flat cars was standard practice for all SPC equipment. Some of these 28 foot cars were shipped to the Carson & Colorado Railroad to read more
