Detailed Item Description : SOUTHERN PACIFIC/SP advertising booklet describing the first prewar version of that road's great NEW streamliner " The Daylight" - "The Newest and Most Beautiful Train in the West." 12 page foldover booklet brochure, saddle-bound with two staples; vertical format, 3 1/8"w x 6 1/8"h when closed, 6 1/4"w x 6 1/8"h when first opened, 12 1/2"w x 6 1/8"h when opened flat; printed in two colors on medium weight coated stock. Beautiful artist's profile of front end of GS class steam locomotive with classic art deco "Daylight" logo on front cover panel; two artist's renderings of train exterior - one in two colors when first fold is opened and the other in black and white spanning entire width of booklet as its centerspread; one small halftone photo of GS class locos; 5 large halftone photos of interiors of feature cars accompanied by extensive descriptions; 4 halftone photos of sights along the way; stylized route map; stylized system map. Undated, but brochure describes the equipment of the 1937 "Daylight" and mentions no other SP "Daylight" trains which dates it between March, 1937 and January, 1940, at which time other "Daylights" entered service . Read scans left to right, top to bottom: Scan #1: front cover panel. Scan #2: panel when first fold is opened. Scan #3: page 4. Scan #4: page 5. Scan #5: centerspread. Scan #6: rear cover panel. Detailed Item Condition : Overall VERY GOOD . Flaws: item exhibits light handling creasing and light rubbing/soiling to cover panels with some corner/edge wear as well at right (bound) edge of closed brochure; all cover panel surfaces after first fold is opened - front and rear - exhibit age spotting; at rear of brochure t is a diagonal crease at upper left corner and a dogear at lower left corner; lower outside corners of pages 10 and 11 show some spotting related to the dogear. This scarce and beautiful item is bright and tight with no fading, markings, or tears - a nice piece of Southern Pacific and prewar streamline era history. PLEASE refer CAREFULLY to scans and ASK questions ! Condition Grading : Book and paper items are graded thus, best to worst: MINT , FINE , NEAR FINE , VERY GOOD , GOOD , FAIR , and POOR . Generally speaking, MINT , FINE , NEAR FINE , and VERY GOOD pieces are of presentation quality, was GOOD to POOR items are of reference quality, unless very rare.
