This piece of authentic railroad dining car china is in the Sunset pattern of the Southern Pacific Railroad. It is a tea cup and saucer. The backstamp on both reads: O.P. CO. SYRACUSE CHINA. The cup has a date stamp of G-2 while the saucer is date stamped Q-3. I no longer have my reference book that would let me give this china an exact date of manufacturing but I know it is from the golden age of railroad travel. The Sunset pattern came in two forms: large flower [which had the border interspersed with a large flower spray] and small flower [in which the flower spray was the same size as the border]. In my search for a saucer for this cup I was not able to get a matching set. The saucer is large flower and the cup is small flower. I also have listed a saucer [small flower] and coffee mug [large flower]. These saucers are different sizes and each has the size saucer appropriate for the cup. This is a beautiful and rare set.The cup has a glaze crack around the handle w it attaches to the cup. This is fairly common. T are color specks under the glaze and a couple of minor age specks on the rim. It has little wear. The saucer has light wear. T is also either a dimple or a glaze run in the border.I have tried to describe the piece as accurately as I can. Most railroad china saw extensive use so the perfect piece is rare indeed.
