This is an accurate example of bows used by southern plains tribes. These short powerful bows were perfect for hunting buffalo off of horseback. This bow is made of osage orange that was seasoned 5-7 years. It's dimensions are 54" long x 1 1/4" wide at mid limb tapering to 5/8" at the nocks. As was common with the plains bows I have attached a tuft of horsehair, it is tied on with deer sinew. It was believed the horsehair gave the endurance and speed of the horse to the bow. The bow was built to draw 26" and should not be overdrawn. The draw weight is 32# @26". It has a raised knot in the middle of the upper limb which adds beauty and character to this bow. It is finished with bees wax. It comes with a linen string waxed with bees wax. Although not as durable as B-50 dacron, linen is a historically accurate string material, and should be good for several hundred shots. I will include a dacron string with this bow if you plan on shooting a lot. If you need more pictures of information please email me.
