You are bidding on the knife sheath ONLY. This is a new item. It is, however, authentic to the Fur Trade Era (up to mid 1800's) in materials, construction and design. The sheath is constructed of smoked braintanned deer (dry crape) stretched over an elk rawhide inner form. The sheath a twisted braintan belt loop with a hand carved wood toggle to secure it beneath your belt, and the loop ends in decorative thongs on either side. I have hand knotted 8 inch fringe along one side as was common on the Southern Plains. It is 9 inches in length not counting fringe or belt loop. This sheath will comfortably house knives with blades up to 7 1/2 inches. I recommend leaving a couple of inches of handle snugly within the sheath to prevent slipping. The beadwork is period correct, done in lane stitch using waxed cotton thread and size 8 beads in old style colors of black, pocelain white, pony trader blue, mustard yellow, cheyenne pink, and white heart red. The pattern, with it's free standing designs down the middle, is similar to many historical sheaths found in the lower southern plains areas. The box (stripe) pattern on the top of the sheath can be found in many Southern Cheyenne pieces. This is a very eye-catching piece and will be sure to stand out at any pow-wow, rendezvous or re-enactment event. Payment is required within 5 days of auction end or item may be sold to second bidder or relisted. For the lower US 48 states, I usually ship USPS Priority with a delivery confirmation. Insurance is optional with the buyer and usually runs another $2 or so. I am not responsible for losses, etc. which occur during shipping. I do advise getting insurance if you are at all nervous about the US mail. I will ship worldwide, but the buyer should contact me about additional shipping charges.
