is a lot of 4 antique spoons, 2 teaspoons are marked coin and 2 are sterling. silver. One Nashville Teaspoon, one Gorham mongramed tablespoon. All come from the estate of a very old Tennessee family who were among the early settlers in Williamson and Rutherford counties. The first piece is a fiddle shape teaspoon, 5-3/4 inches and marked Sterling, 925/1000 B.H. STIEF a Jewelry Company in Nashville, Tennessee . The company was both jeweler and silversmith. From the mark, this spoon does not appear to have been retailed for a larger maker. Local silversmiths often made spoons from silver brought to them by their customers. Stief was in business as early as 1850 selling sterling flatware, and as late as 1897, when they sold Elgin watches under their private label. Fiddle shape was made for a long period of time. Early Southern United States sterling silver is highly collectible. Second item is marked for Gorham with Lion, Anchor, Old English G and Sterling. Fiddle shape. Monogram is MT or MS. Measures 8-3/4 inches long. Last two items are two fiddle shaped teaspoons, both marked simply Coin.Coin Silver, made originally from melted coins.
