This offering is for the following matryoska: Soviet Matryoska Traditional, carved, hand-painted nesting doll with a USSR twist! Very Rare! reduced 3/21/07 $15.99! This uniquely different matryoska is similar to the traditional "nesting dolls" which have been hand-carved and hand-painted by Russians for generations. However, instead of the familiar "grandmother" dolls, this matryoska, carved and painted at the time of the fall of the USSR nearly two decades ago, has images of previous leaders of the Soviet Union, and the first leader of the new Russian Federation. Lenin, Stalin, Gorbachev...they are all in five carved dolls...hand-painted with great detail. Stalin smokes his pipe! Gorbachev has the identifying "birthmark" on his balding head! This matryoska is hand-painted, with a great deal of detail, although some of the paint has chipped along the base. This just adds more character to the piece. Pieces are approximately 2 inches (Lenin) to 7 inches (Gorbachev) in height and nestle together. 's your chance to own something from the no-longer-existant Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
