DRESS VISOR HAT OF A SOVIET AIR FORCE OFFICER DATED 1982 Dark navy blue gabardine, with sky blue cap band and piping. Hat band has standard air force dress cap wreath. Mounted on the crown is the traditional winged star emblem of the Soviet Air Force. Sweat diamond shows trademark of a hat factory in the city of Gomel in the Soviet Republic of Belarus. Size 58 (US size 7 1/4). Made in 1982. Good looking but it had moth problems somewhere in its past: there are three moth bites on the cap band in the back and a moth nip on the crown. Not easy to see but present are a few areas of light moth tracking, particularly on the top edge of the cap band. The cap has been freeze treated to eliminate moths . The visor has some very light water spotting. There are a couple of light scuffs to the white enamel pain in the cockade. Nice looking cap that dates to the time before Soviet and Russian officers became universally obsessed with wearing hats with “flying saucer” sized crowns.
