Description This auction is for a Soviet tank commanders target designation sight, Type TKN-3P, taken as a trophy during the Gulf War from the turret of a T-72 Main battle tank.I have no idea how they passed this monster through customs to stateside, unless via the pull of a Colonel or General. In the tank , this sight is used to rotate the cupola & direct the gun to the target, by depressing the button on the left hand grip & traversing the turret , handing off firing to the gunner & if required , by depressing the button on the right hand grip, the commander, can overide the gunner traverse control of the turret. Condition; apart from a small dent at the edge of the housing flange at the top of the sight & several small screws missing, t is no visible damage & the sight is in good condition & has not been subjected to the effects of U.S. fire. I was told , it was a war trophy & that the sight was fully functional at the time it was pulled from the tank, though I have no means to test it.The housing is equipped with a built in heater control element to eliminate fogging.The coated lens elements are intact & not scratched up, with the branch range scale visible through the lens.The diopter adjustment works as well and the eyepieces are adjustable for eye width.
