Once in a lifetime you find something you never thought you would be exposed to. This is the time! Definitely a museum scientific instrument. I don't think even the Smithsonian has one. "Spalding Adding Machine" Patent 1874, 1884. This is probably the best preserved & best looking one of the 6 to 10 supposed to be still in existence. One in fair condition was quickly grabbed on eBay a while back for $3000.00. One sold a year ago at the scientific auction, Auction Team Koln, for above $5000.00. This is a mechanical adding machine with 9 levers. The appearance is great. Beautiful wooden case. 7 1/8" by 7 1/4" by 1 1/2". Dovetailed. The original instruction sheet is missing. The one I show is a reproduction. The next owner will do much better I am sure. The "Miller's" book on collecting science & technology shows this adding machine. It must be a very desirable artifact. The 2001 edition gives it a value of $3000 to $3500. I have not tried to play with the machine. All the levers & needles seem to move smoothly. The wooden box has a great appearance. T is an age crack that I have tried to show. It does not distract nor attract attention in real life. A once in a lifetime find. As I said before, a museum quality item. Probably the best of the 6 to 10 known to exist. NO RESERVE. 1) Please contact us before bidding if you have less than 20 feedbacks. Also unverified buyers' bids will not be honored. 2) Payment is expected within 10 days of the end of the auction otherwise we reserve the right to relist the item. This period may be slightly extended for foreign buyers. 3) Auctions are not stopped & we don't have "Buy it now" provisions. 4) We appreciate our loyal customers. We enjoy their trust & will always try very hard to deserve & keep it. 5) Make MDANTIQUESINC a mainstay of your favorite list. We are ecclectic sellers, painfully letting go of unique items we have collected & cherished over 35 years. Please view our site"mdantiquesinc".
