Spanish Colonial Cup-Hilt Custom Rapier 1600s to early 1800s One very rare and early Spanish Colonial Cup-Hilt Rapier. This 100% original piece dates from the late 17th - early 18th Centuries. Many of these swords were produced in Spain's Colonial possessions with imported Spanish steel blades. The Cup Hilt is primitive and bench made iron. The hilt retains a wooden grip with a faint carved pattern, its original wrap has gone to time. The grip is 2-3/4" in length. The blade is approximately 26" in length and 1-1/2" width at the hilt with two faint blood grooves. The entire length of the rapier is 34 inches and the weight is approximately 2 lbs. The metal exhibits a uniform oxidation which gives it an attractive antiqued surface. This is truly a rare weapon. This sword came to us from an estate in Southern Arizona. The original 97-year old owner had this rapier hung above a fireplace in her home since the early 1920s.
