It's my pleasure to offer at auction an absolutely Spectacular & Scarce all-original CIRCA 1930's MONTAGUE "REDWING - GAME COCK" 5-1/2', 2-PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL BAG & LABELED TUBE. An extraordinary example of these scarce high-end rods from the Montague Rod & Reel Co. and the finest I have ever seen. The Redwing-Game Cock was first introduced by Montague in the early 1930's and would sell up until sometime before WWII. It represented their second-highest grade bait rod, with only the Manitou model being of higher quality. Both were two of the finer quality rods on the market at the time. Rodshaft carries the seldom-seen oval "Game Cock" decal, which is virtually complete. Built with nicely flamed Tonkin cane and comes equipped with full genuine orange agate guides & tip top, high-grade serrated ferrules, screw-locking reel seat with black pyralin spacer, solid cork tournament grip & foregrip, wound-over winding check, chromed buttcap and wound in red silk tipped in gold. Rod is in solid Extra Fine condition, showing only very light evidence of use. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length and are virtually straight. Varnish appears original, showing several small areas of thinning, but remains nice. All wraps are solid and complete. read more
