This one has me somewhat puzzled. The ricasso is etched "Moteng International Jackal". Moteng is a southern California-based distributor of outdoor equipment. One of their specialties is high-dollar knives from some of the top makers. Their inventory includes knives from several custom makers. Their current bowies average a few hundred dollars and range up to nearly $800. This is obviously an older piece and the maker is a mystery. I believe this piece was made for Moteng, as I don't think Moteng has ever offered blade blanks, although they may have at some point in their history. I have no idea who made this fine knife, but maybe the design elements will provide enough clues to determine who gets the credit. It is truly a massive knife that is very well done. Knife has a 9-1/2" blade and measures just over 15" in overall length. The blade is nearly 1/4" thick and the knife weighs over 1-1/4 pounds. The massive stag handle is extremely thick and absolutely gorgeous. The butt measures over 5" around. I believe it is elk stag. Neither the knife nor the sheath were made by an amatuer or hobbyist. The fit and finish are outstanding. The simple, classic design is timeless. The thick brass guard is perfectly fitted and creats a nearly seamless transition from blade to handle. The sheath was no doubt custom made for this specific knife.
