Let me start on this one by stating quite simply that this knife is beyond adequate description. Not only is it not possible for me to over-state the quality of this knife, but it is not even possible for me to come close to adequately describing it. This knife must be held and admired "in hand" to truly understand the scope of its artistic impact and the amazing level of skill and craftsmanship that were needed to complete this beauty. Larry Duvall began making knives in the late 1970's and sold his first knives in 1980. He was last listed in 2005, so I'm not sure if he's retired, deceased, or what his current status is, but I'm fairly certain he's no longer making knives. I do know that during the mid 1980's, which is likely when this piece was made, his lead time for a knife was four months at best. When you see the quality of his knives, it's amazing that he could make them that fast. The level of his attention to detail and the precision with which his knives were made, is just really incredible. I have seen, owned, handled, and sold some unbelievable knives, but Duvall's are among the very finest I have ever owned. This piece exhibits design elements and characteristics that are not found on even the most expensive customs. The level of finish and particularly the blade polish are second to none. The knife has never been used, carried, or sharpened. The blade features a hand tapered tang that is masterfully done. The grind is very complex and is absolute perfection. The symmetry is amazing. The blades features a concave grind. The design lines are crisp and sharp, but elegant from tip to butt. Ther's a couple inches of stunning filework along the spine that creates a perfect transition from blade to handle. The polish on the blade is as perfect as the rest of the knife. I'm not sure what kind of exotic wood the handles are made from, but they are absolutely stunning. The photos do no justice to the handles...they are that beautiful. Truly among the most beautiful that I have seen. The handles also features a brass-lines lanyard hole and mosaic center pin, which really sets the handle off. The scales are set on black spacers that were done to seamless perfection. The balance and feel are absolutely exceptional! The knife will balance horizontally on the finger immediately below the pins. This is one of the knives that seeks a natural balance and a natural grip as soon as it's grasped. It's difficult to describe, but it just automatically assumes a natural position in the hand. This knife embodies what owning a high-end custom knife is all about. The blade is 3-1/4" long and the knife measures 7-3/4" in overall length. The fit and finish are simply off-the-scale. It just doesn't get any better than this. The sheath is also of exceptional quality and is the original that was made specifically for this knife. An outstanding vintage custom that would be well at ease serving as the centerpiece of a quality collection!!
