3 1/2" papier mache snuff box issued in 1848 to support the Whig candidate for president, Zachary Taylor. The lid has an engraved portrait of him against a metallic copper-colored background. It reads "Old Rough and Ready. The Hero of the War With Mexico." Unlike many varieties of Taylor boxes, this one is not a military commemorative, but a DEFINITE campaign item. Has normal surface crazing. The digital photo is an accurate representation of condition. Has a lot of presence and pizazz. The deep copper color of the background is especially striking. Even contains a small amount of snuff, possibly period (I didn't put it in t!). LIFETIME GUARANTEE OF AUTHENTICITY. Feel free to ask any questions prior to bidding.
