Up for bid is this Christmas card sent by President Richard M.
Nixon's inimitable vice president, Spiro Agnew and his wife, Judy in 1971 Hallmarks Cards, Inc, would always do the Christmas cards of sitting Republican presidents and usually the vice president's as well. Each would choose a design (usually the wives or their aides were assigned this task) for a card that would be sent to hundreds of people. This particular card measures 5 3/4"x 8 3/4". The envelope is an ivory parchment-like stock. The cover has an ivory border with a fine line gold foil trim around the picture which is a painting of the State, War & Navy building in an 1890 winter scene. The building is w the vice president had his office. The inside of the card has a vellum insert over the engraved-in- gold editorial copy. The presidential seal is engraved above the words in gold. Spiro and Judy Agnew's names are their engraved signatures. The back of the card has a detailed description of the building's history and character, as well as a brief bio of the artist who did the painting. The card is in mint condition with absolutely no marks or creases. The envelope also is in mint condition, with no creases, frayed corners or any sign of age or wear. This is a collector's treasure.
