Introduced in 1910, this lovely carnival glass plate carries Northwood's massively popular Grape and Cable pattern. More properly, this is referred to as Grape and Cable Variant, because the tendrils of the leaves creep into the center of the plate. This plate is not marked, which is true for about half of Northwood's carnival glass production, but the Basketweave exterior is a dead giveaway that it is Northwood. More on the back of this plate momentarily. This pieces measures a shade over 9" across and stands approximately 1 3/4" tall. It features an eye-catching array of iridescence, with great greens, yellows, fuschias and blues. The leaves and grapes are well-colored and the grapes show no evidence of wear or rub. I rotated the face of the plate in the first three pictures so you can get a good idea of how it looks. The back side of this plate cannot go without mention, however. I have to say in all honesty, this has the most fantastic iridescence on a reverse of a Grape and Cable plate that I have ever seen............and I've seen literally hundreds. The color is monstrous and if the front was iridized like the back, I'd be asking a thousand bucks for the plate.
