picarrou SPLENDID VINTAGE MINIATURE PAINTING OF ST. BERNADETTE Beautiful old framed miniature painting 4,5 inches by 4,5 inches of St. Bernadette Soubirous ( 1844-1879). The frame is made of wood in red brown and black shades with brass inner trim, the round miniature portrait is under glass and only 2 inches in diameter hand painted on "ivorine" backing. Splendid vintage artistic miniature piece, rich in details and full of bright colors, in excellent condition, only some signs of wear in the wood frame. With hanging hook on back.. Ivorine: Artificial composition of several different substances made to look like ivory and very popular up to the early half of the 1900's as a backing for painting miniatures. This substance no longer exists today.
