Each piece is engraved on the underside with the Spode marking its authenticity. This 72 piece set Includes 12 dinner Plates, 12 salad plates, 12 dessert plates, 12 soup bowls, 12 cups, and 12 saucers. All items in great condition. T is one chip on 1 dinner plate, and 1 chip on a dessert plate. T is also some slight crazing on 1 saucer. All pieces are gently used. This is truly an excellent value! Josiah Spode perfected many pioneering techniques during his lifetime, including in 1784, the process for blue underglaze printing on earthenware, from hand engraved copper plates. In the late 18th century he produced the single most significant development in the history of the ceramic industry - the perfection of the formula for Fine Bone China, also known as porcelain, leading the way for the whole industry. Spode's original blue and white designs have become some of the most collectible in the history of ceramics. This pattern has been in production since 1816, and is undoubtedly one of the all-time classic tableware patterns.
