AUTHENTIC SPONGEWARE STONEWARE PITCHER
RARE: "WILD ROSE" DESIGN W/ CHICKEN WIRE PATTERN RAISED MOLDED PATTERN & COBALT BLUE DETAILING This spongeware stoneware pitcher is part of a collection of Americana belonging to a renowned dealer, appraiser and consigner, who began accumulating and appraising stoneware utilitarian pieces over thirty years ago. The item is a brilliant combination of cobalt blue and off white, featuring authentic salt glazing and has been used strictly for display purposes since its acquisition. Believed to date back to the very early 1900s. It's important to note that this particular pitcher is a personal and professional favorite, as it was created from the popular "Wild Rose" mold and hand sponged in a very unconventional fashion. The "Wild Rose" is characterized by a raised rose design on either side of the mold; this item is unique due to the fact that the original design was instead glazed over with a cobalt blue pattern commonly known as "chicken wire". Because each pitcher's design was based purely on the individual preference of the artist, one can assume that the artist behind this item was expressing a personal level of creativity. A s with all authentic spongeware stoneware, no item is the same; additional details behind the individual creation of each increases the value considerably. In photo #3, you can see the raised molding of the rose design on one side of the item and how it was glazed over to reflect this artist's preference for a more unique look. MEASUREMENTS WIDTH (ACROSS TOP): 5" FULL WIDTH (HANDLE TO SPOUT): 7.5" BASE: 5.5" HEIGHT: 9" Wear is minimal and consistent with age and use, and we absolutely encourage questions, requests for additional photographs or specific details during the bidding process to ensure 100% satisfaction with your purchase. All items are sent standard USPS unless an alternative shipping method is directly negotiated between the buyer and seller. NOTE: Due to the rarity and exceptional quality of this item, insurance will be included free of charge. Best of luck!
