Original lockplate for a Springfield contract rifle. Contract by William Mason, Taunton, Mass. Dated 1863. All markings clear. 1863 date to the rear of the hammer. Eagle motive forward of the hammer. U.S. over Wm.MASON over TAUNTON. Dark gray patina over all. No rust. Half and full cock WORKS PERFECTLY.
