This is an OUTstanding example of the model 1873 trowel bayonet. About the nicest I've ever seen. Complete w/original leather over tin scabbard AND walnut handle plug which is about impossible to find!. The bayonet is 14 5/8" long not including the wood plug. The blade is 10". Blade has 99% original bright finish. No dings or nicks at all. Very scattered freckling to the finish. The grip/socket has 100% of the original blue finish. Marked "PAT.APR.16 '72". The locking ring works fine. Walnut plug has beautiful original finish to it. The bayonet comes in teh original scabbard. Leather over tin. T is some crazing, heavy at the hanging strap below the "US" disk. Other than that, the scabbard is also excellent. T are inspector initials just inside the throat "A.R.S." and "B.M."
