This is a rare, early portable recording device made by a US company called Wilcox-Gay. It appears to be 1930-1940's era from what I can determine. The whole thing folds up and can be carried and set up anyw Has built in radio and also a record player - recorder with corded microphone that extends appx. 6 feet. Called the Recordette, this unit allowed the user to record music, conversations or could be used for clandestine operations. During WW2 this company made electronic devices for the US government. Wilcox-Gay went out of busines in the late 50's.

Outside of carrying case is stamped "Wilcox-Gay Recordette SR." This vintage piece is in pretty good shape for being so old. Has 8 old wax records used for recording, a nice shape microphone, and the recording arm seems to have the original pick up needle. I have not plugged it in nor have I tried to listen to any of the records, so I don't know if it works. Everything seems to be in place and the turntable turns.

I saw a similar piece on a WW2 collectible site and they said it was one of the early clandestine spy recording devices that preceded the famous Protona Minifon. Measures appx. 12x18x6
