As much a primtive form of folk art as religious icon, I've had antiques of this work from the late 19th Cent. The wood piece is a grain harvesting tool, used only by women (men laid around in saloons) in the fields. After being the worn out, they would have the village artist paint an icon on the piece and sit about the hearth, for all to see. The wood itself is primtive and antique, we have a coupe, in our store, unadorned. The art is by Maria Trancheva, an old friend and artist, who supports her family by making this sort of art.
