This beautiful oil painting on canvas depicts Saint Rose of Lima with the Child Jesus. Santa Rosa of Lima was the first native of the Americas to be canonized. Thus, she holds a special place among the saints venerated in the New World. Born in the viceregal capital of Peru in 1586, she became a Dominican tertiary nun at an early age, showing great concentration and exemplary obedience to the rules of the order. Her talent in writing poetry, singing and playing instruments, especially the harp, distinguished her among her companions. St. Catherine of Siena became her model, and with mortification, hard work and love for the indigent and sick, she also experienced a vision of the Infant Christ and a mystic betrothal. As her"little doctor", the Christ Child is said to have advised her how to treat her invalids. She died at the age of thirty-one, surrounded by devoted religious personnel, and rejoicing in her departure from this earth. It is even related that the face of the Child Jesus appeared on the handkerchief with which her forehead was smoothed in her death agony.Look at the exquisite facial features and the color composition, it is just simply amazing .
